Shelter strained after May tornado cripples Gaston County shelter
Gas ton County Animal Care and Enforcement in Gastonia reports its network is down since May 8 after a fiber optic cable was severed in the storm. With phones, credit card processing, X ray and blood testing offline, the shelter cannot accept new animals or process adoptions and foster applications. About 80 dogs and 88 cats are housed, many kittens with mothers, while volunteers help, more fosters are needed. The county and city crews are repairing the fiber line and the shelter hopes for a quick fix. The shelter invites volunteers to apply to adopt or foster at 1491 Business Park Court, Gastonia.
