The Superhero Showdown on Holy Angels campus at Push Place Lanes marked the 32nd annual Angel Bowl, a longtime fundraiser now featuring residents bowling in handcrafted lanes. More than 1,000 supporters joined the event, surpassing the $125,000 goal as donations continue through the month.
Lawndale, Gastonia, and Lincoln County incidents involved masked gunmen demanding cash. Lawndale store on March 20 and Lincoln County location on NC 10 at 11:40 a.m. Monday saw two suspects, armed with handguns, forcing staff to open registers. Investigators say similar Dollar General robberies in Cleveland County and other counties may be connected. Police urge tips to 704-732-9050 or Crime Stoppers 704-736-8909. At a March 19 Gastonia City Council session the city restated its 2023 25 goals and objectives. Priorities include traffic congestion projects with neighboring areas, Catawba Crossings, I 85 widening, sidewalks and greenways, light rail and high speed rail exploration, Walker E Reid III Park renovations funded by CDBG, and a workforce enhancement push led by the Employee Development and Engagement Manager. Utilities rate adjustments aim to fund capital needs in water waste and electric systems. Other aims cover Farm to Table growth, homelessness reduction, updating the comprehensive plan, safer accessible highways and roadways, traffic signal upgrades with NCDOT, a Safety Action Plan, and planning for future fire stations with funding for expansion of staff apparatus and facilities.
