Year of violence grips Gaston area hospital report

A string of fatal attacks and arrests dominates the Gaston County area. Frank Lin owner of Peking Restaurant was stabbed during a domestic fight with wife Angela Lin who faced charges on January 2. Kenneth Walker, 28, died after a shooting on 915 N Boyce St. Jeffrey Lewis 23 from Brooklyn was charged. Horace Haney 62 was found beaten in his Scruggs Street living room. Clayton West 36 shot in front of Franklin Square, while teammate Charles Dixie Schuler 30 faced charges the same day. L Andrew Hawkins 42 shot to death at Gaston College, and student Clayton Davis Long 22 confessed to the slaying. Bobby Gene Lee Elliott 46 found shot dead near Philadelphia Church Road outside Dallas. Eddie Marvin Dow 47 shot twice in his carport on Fallingwood Circle. Four people charged with murder and armed robbery. Martha Crook Edwards 72 raped and suffocated in her Second Avenue home with belongings stolen. Neighbors Roger Bell and Chris Roseboro charged with murder and first degree sexual assault along with three burglary counts. Bobby Lamont Steele 17 died after a drug related argument on North Logan Street. Clifton Eric Luke 18 charged with murder and two gun counts in occupied property.

Deadly year in Gaston County with rising homicides

Gaston County reports 17 homicides in 1991 and nine already in 1992 with police noting strange, out of the ordinary murders. Capt. Archie Huffstetler cites unusual cases while Maj. Dennis Crosby warns that any number is significant and drug related killings are rising. Domestic violence deaths are down this year.
