Gastonia nonprofit to compete in SEED20 showcase

A Gastonia nonprofit Aria's Good Girl Dog Treats led by executive director Talia Watcherer will join nine other area nonprofits in the SEED20 Showcase. The program by SVP Charlotte trains participants to tell their story and culminates in a three minute pitch with the winner earning a $20,000 grand prize.

Gaston County seeks more funding for teacher supplements

Gaston County Schools chief finance officer Gary Hoskins outlined at a Monday school board meeting that the district will request a $3 million increase in teacher supplements for the coming year. The audit shows ongoing costs and rising benefits, with a roughly $668,000 gap for locally paid staff if a 4 percent state-style raise is mirrored locally.

Gastonia OKs 35-Unit Oakwood Townhome Plan

The Gastonia City Council voted 6-1 to rezone Oakwood Street property from single family to a planned development for a 35 unit townhome project after a public hearing. Planning commission approved Feb 8. 26 residents appealed the decision. Kenneth Bell of KB Holdings spoke for the developer.
