Gateway Trail project to see updates on mining plans

Local school worker becomes published author with holiday children’s tale

Gaston County Schools social worker Heather Pierczynski has published a children's book titled A Creature Was Stirring released by HarperCollins. The Christmas themed story follows a mouse whose night nearly ruins Santa’s arrival, with Santa saving the day. Pierczynski traces her writing passion back to Robinson Elementary and Forestview High School mentors.

Man seeks withdrawal of guilty plea in fatal Gastonia shooting

In Gaston County, Markevion Weldon, who pleaded guilty to second degree murder for the Sept 6, 2020 death of 18 year old Jabar Nichols Jr., asked Judge R Gregory Horne to withdraw the plea after learning details. The state plans to retry as Weldon seeks new counsel and a new attorney.
