Hovis Family Builds Surf and Turf Lodge Tale of Growth
Jack Hovis started in restaurants at 14 and, with Bob King, opened Surf and Turf Lodge in June 2006 on land bought from the Kiser family. The shop opened strong, expanded within the first year, and became family owned after Melissa McMahan bought King’s shares. The restaurant now operates dinner Wednesday to Saturday and lunch on Sunday, with family members managing staff, books, and maintenance. Brayden, McMahan’s son, joins with childlike insights, while Jack also assists in kitchen and building oversight.
