Education teacher faces dozens more charges in mountain school scandal

Jackson County authorities charged Joseph Carroll Brooks 29 with more than 45 counts including promoting prostitution and sexual exploitation of minors. Blue Ridge School resource officer Charles R. Hess III faces indecent liberties counts. Investigators say Brooks paid a student to have sex with female students and may have videotaped the acts. Jeremy Stewart, 18, faces seven counts of statutory rape involving a 14 year old. The crimes spanned school hours and Brooks’s home in Cashiers. Residents express shock.
