York County Pennies for Progress upgrades 3.8 miles including Pole Branch Road
A major York County road modernization coordinated under the Pennies for Progress program will upgrade 3.8 miles from Lake Wylie to SC 274 near All Saints Catholic Church, adding a center turn lane on Pole Branch Road and widening SC 274 to five lanes to Wal-Mart. Sections will be resurfaced with curb gutter and sidewalks, and some road segments raised or lowered to reduce undulations. Completion targets end of 2020 but weather and utility relocations may shift dates. Detour via Fewell Road with a temporary traffic signal planned. Blythe Development won the $30 million contract, with $35 million contingency funds. The program funds come from a 1-cent sales tax, shared across York and parts of Gaston counties.
