Why they voted no on Gaston County budget
A 4-3 vote kept Gaston County’s 2013 budget at the same tax rate. Commissioners Brown Loftis and Carpenter opposed, urging deeper cuts or alternative funding. Winters proposed an 8 cent tax rise to cover debt from 2006 and 2007 education bonds, with smaller increases for schools, libraries, and parks, but the board funded only a QRV vehicle from the general fund.
