Cornered bank robber turns pistol on himself

In Gastonia a 22 year old from Hickory robbed the Southern National Bank at Forestbrook Shopping Center around 1 30 p m. He fired a .22 caliber pistol across the lobby as he fled in a gray Chevrolet Lumina. Police surrounded him in a wooded area and he shot himself. No bank workers were harmed.
