Police say a group of at least six black suspects targeted Gaston County mailboxes in May to steal checks, forge them with counterfeit software, and buy items at Wal Mart to return for cash. Victims reported checks taken, with arrests tied to incidents at Gastonia and Belmont stores and possibly another Mecklenburg location. Vehicles linked include a dark Dodge Ram, a red Chrysler 300, and a silver Nissan Quest.
Gastonia man Xavier Jamal Lipscomb, 22, already jailed after at least four arrests in a year, is accused of setting off a jail fire alarm and damaging property. Gastonia police identified and charged 44 year old Kimberly Michelle Wright Rowland of Kings Mountain after she allegedly stole a car and trailer outside a convenience store. She was arrested at a Rite Aid pharmacy by Detective D. Black amid accusations of false documents to obtain prescription medication and related counts of obtaining a controlled substance, obtaining property by false pretenses, computer threats and resisting a police officer.
