Peachoid tower in Gaffney gets a face lift sparks online panic

The 135 foot peach shaped water tower along I 85 in Gaffney South Carolina is undergoing sandblasting and repainting to repair cracks and peeling. The makeover prompted social media alarm that it was being torn down though officials say it is a long running maintenance project with repainting costing 350000 to 400000 dollars. Local residents and visitors say the Peachoid puts Gaffney on the map attracting international fans from House of Cards and later adjustments maintain its iconic status as a roadside attraction.
