Tougher penalties for killing police animals approved
RALEIGH AP Final step before the governor dictates stiffer punishment for killing police animals. The Senate backed the House to remove a proposed felony for attempting to kill such animals and to add killing or injuring them as an aggravating factor for other crimes. The measure, filed by Sen. A B Swindell after the Rocky Mount K 9 Danny was shot, would raise the offense to a higher grade than assault with potential prison time up to eight months on a first offense.
