Tornadoes strike twice at Boiling Springs home site

Dewitt Hamrick lost two mobile homes on Old Boiling Springs Road to Thursday's tornado, marking a second time after a 1973 twister destroyed similar structures on the same property. No injuries were reported as the homes were unoccupied and nearby residents sought cover.

Storms Rake Piedmont Area With Tornadoes And Flooding

A severe pre summer storm swept Piedmont and surrounding counties bringing damaging lightning heavy rains and at least one confirmed tornado near Shelby in Cleveland County. Downed trees displaced power lines flooded streets and a fatal car crash occurred on a rain slick road. The system prompted flash flood and flood warnings across multiple counties as residents reported widespread wrecks and damage to buildings including a church steeple.

South's dream refuses to die long after war

CHAPEL HILL AP As many as one in five Southerners believe the region would be better off if it had won the Civil War in a UNC Chapel Hill INSTITUTE poll based on 819 adults in 13 Southern states. Seventeen percent agreed the South would be better off if it had won the war with 18 percent unsure. Eight percent favored secession, five percent uncertain. Eighty six percent disagreed the South would be better off as a separate country, with 62.7 percent strongly disagreeing.
