Mead murder case lands on evidentiary hearing over alleged withheld notes
Michael Mead faces first degree murder charges in the death of Lucy Johnson, a pregnant mother of two. The case stems from the burning home in Cramerton on July 16, 2008, with prosecutors accused of withholding arson notes from the defense. An evidentiary hearing was ordered by Judge Forrest Bridges in Mecklenburg County after venue was moved from Gaston to the neighboring court.

Garden Parkway Keeps Hope Alive In Budget Spares Toll Road
North Carolina lawmakers outline a budget plan that would restore funding for the Mid Currituck Bridge and delay but not cancel the Garden Parkway toll project in Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. Senator Forrester and Senator Harrington anchor the transportation panel, with Harrington saying she remains opposed to the Garden Parkway while noting higher local road needs. The plan treats the two projects as gap funding to cover bond payments and toll revenue gaps, not full project funding.
