Alternative Baseball club comes to Gaston County
The Carolina Fireflies, an Alternative Baseball Organization team for teens and adults with autism and other special needs, will start practice July 30 at George Poston Park in Lowell. The group, open to ages 15 and up, plans seven inning games in September and October, facing the organization’s other nearby team from Boiling Springs, South Carolina.

Regal to keep local cinema under new ownership in Gaston County
The 14 screen Regal Franklin Square theater at 3778 E. Franklin Blvd in Lowell, built in 1998, changed hands as Regal sold the property for 13.2 million to EPA Properties of Kansas City. The operator is expected to stay, but renovations remain uncertain.
