Burlington commits to fall opening in Gastonia
Burlington plans a fall opening at 3580 E Franklin Blvd Gastonia in the Franklin Square center becoming the 17th NC store. The 46 115 square foot Burlington will occupy the southern half of a 108 000 square foot building previously home to Kmart with Academy Sports and Outdoors occupying the north. The $3.2 million remodel began after a March building permit as part of a larger 11 2 acre center valued over 6 6 million. Burlington, founded 1924, evolved from coats to a full one stop shop.

Pedestrian killed as police chase ends on Rankin Avenue
A fatal scene unfolded on the 800 block of Rankin Avenue near Highland Street Sunday night when a car being pursued by a Gaston County Sheriff’s deputy struck two pedestrians. One victim, a teen nicknamed ATL, died at CaroMont Regional Medical Center while Shawn Smith, 47, was listed in critical condition. Eyewitnesses varied on who was struck. The incident remains under preliminary investigation by Highway Patrol.
