Gaston County forms Hell Hounds women’s rugby team
Gaston County Rugby Football Club expanded from a men's team started in 2003 to form the Hell Hounds. As of now about nine women are signed and five regularly attend practice, with no official roster yet. The men play in the Carolina Geographic Rugby Union Division four, while the women compete locally.

Kings Mountain rowers aim for Pacific world record
Kings Mountain resident Kaitlyn Piltzecker joins Hannah Byrd and sisters Gabe and Megan Guefen on Rowing Oceans 4 Women. The four woman team will depart in June from California to Hawaii, aiming for a world record crossing of 2,800 miles aboard Julie, a R45 Elite built by Rannoch Adventure in England. Their second ocean crossing seeks fastest time in the World’s Toughest Row race.
