Local school systems prepared to announce by 6 a.m. today whether classes will be canceled or delayed. Gaston County, Lincoln County, and Cleveland County schools monitor weather and posted notices via radio TV stations and the district websites. Lincoln County said dismissals at 10 a.m. were planned. others had not issued decisions at press time.
Gaston County Commissioners 6-0 approved a resolution asking the North Carolina General Assembly to withhold handgun permit records from public view. The measure, sponsored by Tracy Philbeck, urges state leaders, governor, and lawmakers to shield permit data while noting current law allows public access to names ages and addresses of permit holders.
Arkansas based Bank of the Ozarks will acquire First National Bank of Shelby in a 67.8 million deal expected to close in the second or third quarter. The purchase includes all stock and property, affecting about 200 employees at 14 locations in Cleveland, Gastonia, Cramerton, Bessemer City and surrounding counties. First National’s leadership says the move aligns with a shared community focus and strength, expanding Bank of the Ozarks’ NC presence with Charlotte loan office and Wilmington branches.
