Reeves McGlohan, a 76 year old educator and former Gaston County Schools superintendent, receives the 2024 Martin Luther King Unity Award from Gaston Together for his service to children and community organizations including the Southwest Educational Alliance and the American Association of School Administrators.

Donations rise as Empty Stocking Fund extended to Feb
Gazette readers have raised 54294 of the 75000 goal for the Salvation Army Empty Stocking Fund, with the appeal extended to February 2. The agency’s Gaston and Lincoln counties programs include Center of Hope meals, Angel Tree gifts, Boys and Girls Club activities, senior Catherine Booth Apartments events, food and clothing pantries, and short term housing and cold weather shelter services. Recent gifts include 1500 from an anonymous donor and 250 from Floyd and Rita Farmer.
