Elections board seeks MIA voters card mail confusion
The Board of Elections mails postcard sized voter cards to clear rolls of deceased or moved voters. Thousands received cards with unfamiliar names, though sent to their address. Gaston County issued about 22,000 cards after Christmas amid ongoing state wide checks.
Why the Elections Board Sends Verification Cards
The Board of Elections mails verification cards to contact registered voters who have had no contact with the board in the past two federal elections or four years. They want to confirm the name on the registration remains valid. If you receive a card with an unfamiliar name, return it with a note stating unknown or return to sender. This triggers a second mailing, then the person may be marked inactive and eventually removed from rolls.
