Gastonia Plans Microtransit Shift From Fixed Bus Routes
At its first 2024 meeting, Gastonia City Council voted unanimously to end fixed bus routes starting July 1, 2024 and adopt a microtransit system. Randi Gates of the Gastonia Department of Transportation says the change will cut costs and improve service while ADA Paratransit remains available. Residents can schedule pickups via app or phone, replacing the current six fixed routes served by nine buses and two light vehicles.

Gastonia man sentenced in drug trafficking case
Patrick Andrew Shomo, 42, of Gastonia, was sentenced to just over 23 years in prison for methamphetamine trafficking and violating federal supervised release. The investigation covered December 2021 to February 2022 with multiple controlled drug buys and transactions observed by investigators. A hotel room search on December 15, 2021 yielded digital scales, Xanax, fentanyl, and more than half a kilogram of methamphetamine.

Man charged in shooting now accused of stalking
Christopher Lee Randolph, 24, released from jail after allegedly shooting someone, was arrested again on a stalking charge. A protective order request details encounters at CareMont Regional Medical Center Belmon t, a gas station, and the victim’s home as he followed and approached her vehicle while she was with her children. He allegedly told her she was very pretty and pressed for contact after she declined.
