Frances Lynn Ashe Melton 54 of 315 Ashe St Lowell faces charges after police said she mailed a Bible to Harven A Crouse Detention Center containing tobacco packets and Suboxone for her son Brandon Jackson Kirby 34 jailed on multiple charges including larceny and breaking and entering. NCDOT closes part of Lowell Bethesda Road for culvert work

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close a section of Lowell Bethesda Road south of Titman Road in Gaston County for about four weeks to perform culvert maintenance. The 2200 block culvert will be addressed starting Monday February 29. Detours direct traffic via South New Hope Road and Titman Road while work continues.

Workplace death at tire firm under unknown cause

Kenneth Robert Jaynes 32 of Gastonia died when a six wheeled box truck rolled onto him at American Tire and Racing in Gastonia. police say the truck’s transmission needed manual movement from underneath to reverse and a tire was placed behind the back wheels but failed to stop the vehicle. detectives do not suspect foul play. Glenn Roberts called Jaynes like a son and described his return to the shop.

Power outages cancel classes at two Gaston schools
