A 66 year old man, Ronald Ervin, spent about 12 hours trapped in a 10 foot deep manhole behind Value Paint on East Long Avenue before Ivory Floyd, guided by a sense of divine instruction, found him near the railroad tracks and alerted firefighters who brought him to safety.
Jmar Demon tae Davis, recovering from five bullet wounds at Gaston Memorial Hospital, made his first court appearance in his hospital room Thursday morning. The 27 year old Charlotte man faces two counts of assault with a firearm on an officer after police say he reached for a gun when Mount Holly officers stopped him for speeding. Warrants say he did not follow commands. a magistrate and sheriff's deputies served the warrants Wednesday night, placing him in custody. See hearing on Page 5A.
Valerie Davis, mother of a 27 year old Army veteran and father of two, defends her son as police shoot him five times after a speeding stop in Mount Holly. She describes a confusing, frustrating day as investigators seek to reconstruct the incident and ensure her son did not deserve the harm.
