Shooting Death Draws KKK Attention in Gastonia

Betty Sexton was shot by Gastonia officer LaDoniqua Neely after she refused to drop a long gun during a kitchen confrontation. SBI notes Sexton did not fire. two prior fatal police shootings, including James Allen, have drawn national interest and an out-of-state Klan group plans a protest march.

Two Gastonia Vets Recall Iwo Jima Battle Fifty Years On

Adam Orraorr reports on Joseph Tedder and Mack Drake, now aged 90 and 89, who fought with more than 70 000 Marines and sailors at Iwo Jima from February 19 to March 26, 1945. Drake earned a Silver Star in Guam and both men endured intense combat on the volcanic island marked by the Mount Suribachi flag raising.
