Early Risers find new home at Textile Lanes in Belmont
The Belmont based Early Risers bowling league adapts to a new 40 lane venue after AMF Gastonia closed in 2017. Members, including secretary Janis Babb, bowl each Wednesday at Textile Lanes with four teams Smileys Alley Cats Holy Rollers and Strikes and Spares. They note bowling is a social ritual more than a sport.

New leaders named for Gaston County domestic violence center
Gaston County selects two veteran social workers to lead the county shelter after longtime director Jennifer Cannon retires. Tara Joyner is promoted to program coordinator overseeing the shelter and HHHS functions, while Cannon will supervise the facility and report to Joyner. In 2016 the shelter fielded over 1,000 domestic violence calls and housed 105 women and 171 children.
