Police: 1 hour, 3 failed crimes and bond set
Keith Weathers said he defended his truck with a pocket knife after a man with a gun approached in a Wal Mart lot before the Super Bowl. Within an hour investigators say the suspect also attempted break ins at a check cashing center on Franklin Boulevard and outside a Rehab and Health Center on North Highland Street in Gastonia.

Man charged after Walmart carjacking attempt on Super Bowl Sunday
Ernesto Castaldo, 31, of Gastonia, is jailed on 250000 bond after two counts of attempted robbery and two counts of attempted breaking and entering a motor vehicle. Police say the spree began 3 10 p m at Wal Mart on Myrtle School Road. Victim Keith Weathers, 63, resisted with a pocket knife when a gun was held to him. both suspects fled in a white car after entering another vehicle.

Castaldo accused in chained robberies at local stores
Police say after a Wal-Mart incident Castaldo went to a check cashing center at 302 E Franklin Blvd and tried to break into a 2005 Toyota Camry with a 13-year-old girl inside. Twenty minutes later he allegedly tried another robbery at a closed health agency on Highland Street in Gastonia.
