The candidate filing period starts Monday at noon and runs through February 28 for the 2014 elections. Primary is May 6. Filing fees range from five dollars for Soil and Water supervisor to one thousand seven hundred forty for Congress.
Incumbent Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger, a Democrat, seeks a second four year term after defeating GOP challengers in 2006 and 2010. In the 2014 cycle, Republicans Jeff Bryson Jeff Clark and Jeff Baker announce bids for the GOP primary to challenge Cloninger. Bumgardner faces Mickey Price in the Republican primary. David Hendrix, Gastonia businessman, also runs for the House 109 seat after mulling a presidential bid as an independent.
