Family sues Belmont over deadly 2012 crash and police chase
The Deitz family files a wrongful death suit against the city of Belmont and two officers over a 2012 checkpoint and pursuit that killed Donna Jean Deitz and former mayor Kevin Loftin. The suit alleges unsafe practices, with Norman’s intoxicated stop leading to the fatal crash. Norman was later convicted of two second degree murder counts and will serve at least 25 years. Belmont officials say the case will be handled by an attorney from the liability carrier.
