State HB13 requires K through third grade class sizes to average 20 with a 23 student cap. Gaston County must add about 30 teachers for 2018-19 to meet the new limits, on top of 26 hired this year. Some staff reassignment occurred to fit the changes.
A class action suit against Duke Energy by neighbors in South Point and other areas was dropped after the utility reached a settlement. The agreement covers a voluntary financial package tied to alternate water connections required by state law and outlines which claims are barred or not by the release.
Partners Behavioral Health Management will supply 1,900 Narcan doses across eight counties including Gaston, Cleveland, and Lincoln. At least 300 doses will aid Gaston officers whose supply expires in March. Barbara Hallisey says the program helps save lives and supports an opioid plan.
