Barnett Evidence Raises Robbery Motive in Hightower Killing
The court record notes a reasonable juror could find Barnett inflicted the fatal blows, with motive to rob the store for drug funds. Prosecutors argued the robbery occurred during the killing and a handgun, coins, and cash suggest robbery as motive. Dissent notes Barnett’s statements clarify but do not implicate him.
