Gastonia police officer Mark Gibby testified about known abuse of street people and his powerlessness to stop it. He expressed deep shame, saying he should have intervened to prevent the mistreatment.
Gibby officer Kyle Shepard and former officer Steve Phillips testified in federal court in a high profile case. They face accusations of violating the rights of street people by hitting them. The proceedings drew national attention as the defense argued their actions were necessary.

The Joy of Youth singers from Gaston County perform at the national Christmas tree lighting in Washington on Saturday evening invited by Rep. Cass Ballenger. The 15 member group will sing 30 minutes featuring Christmas Is Almost Here Ring the Bells and a traditional medley. They are the only North Carolina group at the event and have performed at Opryland USA Disney World and Heritage USA.
