Gaston County Solid Waste and Recycling will collect household hazardous waste Saturday at the Dallas Park Waste Collection Facility on Leisure Lane off the Dallas-Cherryville Highway. Drop off paint solvents cleaners flammable liquids acids batteries lawn chemicals aerosols used motor oil fluorescents bulbs oil filters and related items from 8 30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Explosives asbestos infectious wastes PCBs and radioactive materials are not accepted. Collections run monthly through November.

Unreliable car foils attempted bank robbery in Lowell
Two Spartanburg men, Derick Alexander Adams and Jonathan Adams Davis, were arrested after a bank robbery at BB and T on Groves Street. The getaway car wouldn’t start, leading to quick capture by Lowell and multiple police agencies. Davis fled on foot but was cornered on I-85 exit 22. They will be arraigned on federal bank robbery charges in Charlotte.
