Preservation Gaston to honor historic preservation leaders
Preservation Gaston, a Gaston County nonprofit formed in 2019 to stabilize the Smyre Pasour house and foster countywide preservation, plans an awards ceremony on May 21 led by Patricia Rudisill. The group highlights Sammy’s facade on Trade Street Melvins jail conversion and the Hoffman Hotel as examples of restored landmarks.

Seven students awarded achievement by Gastonia City Council
Gastonia City Council recognized seven students for achievement awards at a gathering led by school principals. Adrian Cutshaw of Grier Middle School, active in chorus and student body president, will attend Ashbrook High School. Massey of Ashbrook, a multi sport champion and senior class president, is slated for Auburn University on a track scholarship. Mauro Maya Castro of Highland School of Technology is noted as a manufacturing and engineering student with future prospects.
