Residents oppose rezone plan near Gastonia Nissan area

Neighbors along Thomas Trail and nearby subdivisions protest a 6.2 acre rezoning proposal to change land along Glenwood Drive from residential to commercial behind Gastonia Nissan, Hobby Lobby and Tindal Ford. The petition blocks passage unless council votes supermajority.

Fire damages Gastonia nonprofit Optimist Club building

A roof fire at the Chapel Grove Optimist Club in Gastonia caused about 15000 in damage to a 2500 square foot building housing youth sports programs. No injuries were reported as volunteers plan fundraising to rebuild and reschedule activities for 100 plus children.
