Homefront First Lt. Robert Carpenter son of the late Frank L. and Pearl Lewis Carpenter of Dallas was killed in action in Germany March 28 while commanding Company L of the 36th Infantry. He had been wounded six times and had just returned to duty after his sixth injury. He wore the Purple Heart with five clusters the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. Carpenter enlisted in January 1941 rising from private to lieutenant and had been recommended for a captaincy.
