Diamond Drills Expand Catalpa Vein Prospects and Camp Growth
Gallup American Coal Co moves offices to the I O C F building at Coal Ave and Third St, signaling growth. Diamond drill work on the Catalpa vein progresses with three drills, two owned by Sullivan Diamond Drill Co and one by the company, near Gibson. The Catalpa vein is tapped away from old workings, opening a potential mining site and a large nearby camp to boost Gallup’s prosperity. New mining camps are being upgraded at Gibson Heaton and Navajo, with better housing and more builds planned as miners arrive seeking work. Output last September reached about 15 000 tons, with increases seen as the workforce expands, signaling a much larger month ahead.
