Santa Fe shop land funds short in Gallup drive

A Gallup fundraising effort for the Santa Fe shop site reports a shortfall of at least 1700 dollars to complete the land purchase. Navajo Pete Under Guard After Attempted Abduction

Pete, a Navajo Indian, grabbed a 12 year old girl, intending an embrace, then fled when Joe Stenko intervened. He was found hobbling on hills near town and restrained by lawmen. Miss Lida Scanzini of Albuquerque won first prize at the state teachers association declamatory contest in Albuquerque last week. Miss Louise Joyner of Roswell took second. Miss Mary Van Der Wagon of Gallup earned creditable showing with no honors. Next year’s meeting will be in Santa Fe.

Blind Tiger Raid Near Puerco River Bar Run by Indians

Direct Line coal mine to boost output in Gallup district

The Direct Line Fuel company plans to elevate Gallup district coal production to 1000 tons per day. Financed by H R Conklin of Joplin and John L Case of Kansas City, a new tipple, shaking screens and pit cars will arrive soon. The mine now yields 60 tons daily and a new camp and rail connections are planned.
