The reorganized Chamber of Commerce reports 346 new members in McKinley County and expects at least 400. Service fund subscriptions total 6 364 with a grand total of 15 014 dollars. A long list of contributors from local businesses and citizens is given, showing broad community support for the campaign.
President Harding proclaims Red Cross annual roll call from Armistice Day to Thanksgiving Day with Red Cross Sunday on November 13 and urging nationwide devotion to service. He notes the Red Cross as volunteer and semi official, aiding veterans and civilians, and continuing relief in peace and disaster.
Lloyd George cannot attend the opening of the Disarmament Proceedings but sends a message framing disarmament as the only path to safety. He warns that nations repeat arms races after war and urges Washington conference success to protect civilization and revive commerce.
San Juan O il Aztec plans a celebration for a shallow oil field with barbecue for ten sheep and two beeves, bread and coffee, and a special train from Durango arriving at 8 pm. Over a thousand visitors are expected as Aztec's public spirited citizens host a royal feast after the train's arrival.
McKinley County Chamber of Commerce members vote next week after group meetings and questionnaires. The primary ballot mails, twelve names to nominate, twenty four advance to final ballot, elections set for a two year and one year term, dues must be paid to vote.
Detroit voters on November 9 show Mayor James Couzens leading re election by about two to one over challenger Dan E W Smith in a nonpartisan contest framed around municipal ownership. The result signals support for Couzens administration and its policy aims as returns come in from city wards.
New York Mayor John F. Hylan, a Democrat, was re-elected with a projected plurality near 400,000. Democrats also won city comptroller and presidency of the board of aldermen, plus five borough presidents. Women voted for the first time in this municipal election. Other states saw Democratic gains in Kentucky and Maryland, with Virginia electing E L Trinkle governor.
F. X. Schwab, Republican, advocating amending the Volstead act to permit sale of beer and light wines, was elected mayor of Buffalo by a 2 563 vote margin over incumbent George S. Buck. The results from Buffalo, New York, announced November 9.
Schenectady New York Democrat George R. Lunn was re elected mayor for a fourth term. This marks the first instance in 28 years where a mayoral candidate secured two consecutive terms.
Syracuse voters elected J H Walrath Democrat as mayor by a 6974 vote margin over Republican De Forest Settle in the first GOP mayoral upset in over 16 years.
Returns indicate William A. Magee Republican candidate for mayor defeated William N. McNair Democrat by a 45 000 vote majority in Pittsburg.
Albany reported that the Republican majority in the New York Assembly will continue in 1922 after today’s elections. Democratic inroads reduced the margin but did not overturn the balance of power in the chamber.
Return indicating Republicans will control both houses of the New Jersey legislature. The holdover Republican senators ensure majority in the Senate, with six Republicans re elected to give a strong GOP edge.
Fred Kohler former police chief and independent Republican defeated Mayor Fitzgerald to become Cleveland mayor. The city will adopt a city manager charter amendment, 25 council members chosen by proportional representation will select a city manager to run administration starting January 1 1924. Cleveland claims to be the largest city to adopt the plan.
Unofficial election returns from Columbus show the soldiers' bonus amendment leading by nearly three to one while a poll tax proposal trails by about three to one.
Reports from Kentucky on November 9 show Democrats winning back the lower house with 68 of 100 seats and leading the senate 19 to 17 with two districts incomplete. A Republican mayor won in Louisville by a large margin.
Samuel L Shanks Republican former mayor resumes office after a landslide victory over Boyd Ralston by about 22000 unofficial votes. The Republican ticket swept in with him as head. In Muncie Dr F H Quick won by a large majority over Rollin Bunch while Evansville chose Democrat Benjamin Bosse for a third term over John S Hopkins.
Complete returns from 485 of 506 precincts show Mary Morgan, printing office manager and club woman, named county supervisor in San Francisco. Her win marks the first woman to hold the office, with surprises including the defeat of incumbents Fred Bilnet Charles A Nelson and Fred Uhr.
