Gallup voters to decide on water bonds and city light plant

Republicans push municipal ownership of city lighting and expand Gallup by voting on April 2 1918. Bonds of up to 80000 will fund water system with the rest for lighting. law requires water bonds and permits a future lighting plan under the same ballot.

Gallup Water Bond Election Ordinance Drafted for 1918

The Gallup Town Trustees publish notice of a waterworks bond election on April 2 1918 seeking voter approval to issue bonds up to 80000 for water system construction and extension. The notice covers election procedures precinct locations and qualifications. Also an ordinance revokes a wholesale liquor license for Gallup Cold Storage Company and declares liquor traffic a nuisance.

Ordinance Prohibits Wholesale Sale of Intoxicating Liquors

The town of Gallup New Mexico passes an ordinance prohibiting wholesale sales of intoxicating liquors within its borders. Violators will be deemed to maintain a nuisance and face abatement by legal actions as directed by the town attorney. The measure takes full effect upon adoption publication law and was approved March 14 1918.
