Republicans push municipal ownership of city lighting and expand Gallup by voting on April 2 1918. Bonds of up to 80000 will fund water system with the rest for lighting. law requires water bonds and permits a future lighting plan under the same ballot.
The Gallup Town Trustees publish notice of a waterworks bond election on April 2 1918 seeking voter approval to issue bonds up to 80000 for water system construction and extension. The notice covers election procedures precinct locations and qualifications. Also an ordinance revokes a wholesale liquor license for Gallup Cold Storage Company and declares liquor traffic a nuisance.
The town of Gallup New Mexico passes an ordinance prohibiting wholesale sales of intoxicating liquors within its borders. Violators will be deemed to maintain a nuisance and face abatement by legal actions as directed by the town attorney. The measure takes full effect upon adoption publication law and was approved March 14 1918.
The Gallup New Mexico town board enacts rules requiring all business entities within limits to obtain licenses and pay any unpaid balances. It declares overdue fees as nuisances and authorizes abatement by legal action, with the town attorney empowered to pursue enforcement.
Gallup council passes five ordinances including revocation of Gallup Cold Storage Co license to force back payments. Ordinance 111 bars wholesale liquor sales in city limits, 112 lets city attorney sue on unpaid licenses, 114 speeds sidewalk cleaning after storms, 115 reorganizes city funds handling. Debate centers on legality and prior notice. Mrs Kirk of ToHatchi visits. Mrs McSparron of Chin Lee noted.
