Tomorrow at 3 p m the season opener will be played in Gamerco with Albuquerque facing Gamerco. Gamerco has already won and hopes to draw a large crowd to its baseball park famed as one of the west’s best.
The Marland Oil Company well spudded on Tuesday on the Defiance structure about seven miles west of Gallup. The company’s habit is to drill only where there is oil, and if this holds, Gallup could soon be added to the oil map.
W E Phelps resigned from the Frank Swartz administration as city marshal and will move to California to take a position with the Santa Fe Railway. He says Swartz favored enforcement of laws but could not act alone and hinted he could not apply his own judgment fully. He warned that law enforcement would run wide open until after the upcoming town election.
F B C Club entertained Thursday afternoon with bridge at two tables. First prize went to Mrs. G Mallett and consolation to Mrs. A N Straus. A delicious luncheon followed. Guests included Mrs Nezzar Peek Cecil Hale and others. Mrs A N Straus to entertain next week.
Mrs H T Watson entertained the Wilshire Club on Saturday with bridge at two tables. Mrs L K Heller won high score. Luncheon followed. Attendees included Mrs Harry Spann, Mrs EB P Sellard, Mrs J W Hannett, Mrs A L Zinn, Mrs K K Heller, Mrs M J Murphy, Mrs Glenn Emmons, and Mrs A L Zinn. Next meeting planned by Mrs A L Zinn.
Mor ris Goldwater mayor of Prescott and R N Fredericks bank president were indicted by a grand jury in Superior Court on felony charges for alleged acceptance of deposits in the Bank of Jerome while it was insolvent.
May 12 is National Hospital Day by presidential proclamation to honor Florence Nightingale. St Marys Hospital will open to the public with Sisters in charge conducting visitors to see the facility and educate the community about hospital care.

The Gallup High School Class of 1026 presented Clarence Decides last night in the High School auditorium. Nine actors performed in a living room scene at Fleurmont with a mix of mystery comedy and romance.
Judge Joanne McFie of Gallup sold his six room residence on Don Gaspar Avenue to J R Roberts, Plaza merchant. The house valued at seven thousand dollars last winter included a garage and garden. H H Dorman arranged the deal. Rumors spoke of a ten thousand dollar offer for a large Plaza residence, signaling rising Santa Fe real estate demand as tourist arrivals influence prices. R K White returns from Fonda Iowa where he was called home by the death of his father Jack White on April 8. Jack White was a longtime resident remembered by area old timers in this community update.

Pauline Berger age 55 died in Page New Mexico on April 15. Funeral services were at Sacred Heart Church conducted by Father Regis and burial followed at Gallup Cemetery. Survived by husband Herman Berger, daughter Mrs. Ben F. Carver of Denver, and sons Augusta Berger and Charlie Berger of Page. The family resided in the Zuni Mountains for 20 years and in this region for 36 years. The Carver family attended the funeral and expressed thanks for sympathy and generous gifts.
A cornerstone ceremony on a Wednesday afternoon marked the dedication of the Charles H. Burke School for the Navajo Indians at the former Fort Wingate site. Superintendent S A M Young led the event with speakers praising transforming a military fort into an education center for the Navajo Nation.
