$50,000 Mail Vault Robbed in Bisbee Arizona

Postmaster L R Bailey of Bisbee was bound and gagged by two masked men who entered the Bisbee post office last night and forced him to open the vault. About $50,000 was taken, including $40,000 in cash destined for payroll and $10,000 in silver and gold. No clues yet. Bailey has served eight years as postmaster amid prior post office fund troubles involving two aides.

Bisbee Arizona April 4 The robbery of the local post office last night yielded 560000 the largest loss in the Bailey era as postmaster for eight years. Two former assistant postmasters R A Clampitt and W W Henderson now serve federal prison terms for shortages of 6000 and 1500 respectively.
