Allied forces press the offensive as American troops contribute to momentum on the front lines. Reports indicate continued gains and persistent pressure against enemy positions with no pause in the advance.
Allied troops push along the Aisne Marne Rheims front capturing villages and closing on the German supply base at Fere en Tardennois. Americans seize cannons and machine guns as Franco American forces threaten Beuryardes and seize positions east of Chateau Thierry. The German base at Fere en Tardennois remains under pressure with a grand counter offensive anticipated.
American soldiers pledged to defend Paris have achieved progress on the Marne front. Last week German lines were 48 miles from Paris, today they sit 55 miles away and are continuing to be pushed back.
IS reports the Franco American counteroffensive widening the Marne sector. French and American troops push through and seize multiple villages while pressing toward Fere-en-Tardenois as German forces retreat. German rear-guard fights flare along the Ourcq to Jaulgonne corridor with renewed attacks near Oup Chaseins and Chassins as allied gains widen toward the Vesle and Rheims line.
Berne reports a grand council of war has been called by the Kaiser, to be attended by all German sovereigns and military chiefs, as Allied actions on the Marne intensify. In Washington the War Department lists 188 American casualties and 64 Marine casualties, with details by rank and service, alongside New England names and a note on German censorship of French war office statements. Americans press on toward the Marne, using armored cars, tanks, and cavalry in renewed fighting near Ris forest, while Paris notes German forecasts of no further canal port drives and reports French use of 800 tanks in a major counteroffensive.
Hartford dispatch reports Governor Holcomb appointed delegates for the American Prison association convention in New York October 14 to 18. Included are Edward A. Fuller Col Norris G. Osborn Willis O. Burr Arthur R. Kimball Charles Hopkins Clark George C. Erskine Edward F. Boyd and former Governor Frank B. Weeks Morris W. Seymour. Epidemics in Germany note Spanish influenza typhus and malaria spreading due to weakened resistance as German press raises alarm.
