Veteran Thomas Lay returns home with war wounds in France
Thomas Lay of 153 Church Street arrived home Thursday after serving from Newport News Virginia to France. He landed in France January 1 1918 and made five trips over the top on the fifty mile front with the 26th infantry. He suffered a shattered right jaw and leg injuries from an exploding shell five months ago and received treatment at No 1 and No 8 base hospitals for five weeks more. The jaw and leg are nearly healed, the arm sling was removed today and he can move his arm somewhat.
