Happenings in This Vicinity 25 Years Ago
In the PDN Press from December 13 1893 the river ice is five inches thick and the city of Springfield arrived late to see a frozen river. It was six degrees below zero on Main Street. A South Farms church program featured Prof J B Van Benschoten telling of his Hudson trip with Mrs Frederick Carroll providing music. Eels are being speared through the Sebethe river and perch fishing is excellent. Skating is popular on local ponds and workers wind for the Christmas church while a Bunce’s window Ferris wheel draws night attention. Henry Coleman moved to Crescent Street and horse car drivers suffer from the cold, now covered in ice and snow.
