River Ice Delays Cargoes Across Connecticut River
In a December storm a Middletown steamer became stuck in five inches of ice near the river, delaying departures to Hartford Saybrook and beyond. The Comet, Frank Jones, and Silex towed coal barges, while the big tug Sachem and others faced ice and wrecked gear. Local markets advertise specials as crews work to clear routes and resume towage, with river ice blocking and unblocking passages.
