McAdoo and Kitchin Clash Over Tax Plan in Conference
Washington August 14 Secretary of Treasury McAdoo met with Chairman Kitchin and the Ways and Means Committee to argue over methods of taxing business profits in the new revenue bill. Treasury data comparing McAdoo and Kitchin plans on 1000 random corporations suggests McAdoo would yield hundreds of millions more in excess taxes. McAdoo pressed for his scale 10 to 60 percent with an 80 percent war profits alternative and the committee’s equalization board to decide applications.
