British forces mount bold counter attacks to blunt German pressure on Messines Ridge. The defense tightens as Allied troops resist with steady gunfire and strategic repositioning, slowing further German advance and preserving key positions.
Allied forces report Greek troops opening the fighting while German and Bulgarian advance across the Struma. In Flanders, Messines ridge remains a focal point as British lines hold against German attempts to widen gains near Baillieul and Nieppe forest. General Plumer recalled to command Second Army as British seek decisive action.
London reports the Greek army engaged German allies for the first time since entering the war and secured victory in Greek Macedonia along the Struma river. Greek forces captured five villages while British troops took another. Greek and British positions crossed the Struma to seize villages and hold Kumli Ormanli near the Bulgarian frontier.

Two American pilots Lieut Allan S Winslow and Lieut Douglas Campbell in France report a dramatic duel above the lines. Three aviators died and a fourth is believed fatally injured after a tail spin near Webster at the camera and gun field in Ellington Field Texas. The deceased are Second Lieutenant Roland J. Winterton of Boston Cadet Forrest Dean Jones of Worcester Massachusetts Second Lieutenant Leo J. Nugent of Washburn Iowa. The injured is Cadet A Maurice.
The Atwater Foote and Sherrill brokerage firm, based in Poughkeepsie, failed as the New York stock market opened today. The statement notes the failure is said to be for 000, signaling a major setback for the firm and its clients.
