German and British forces clash along a wide front with heavy fighting near Messines Ridge. Berlin touts large prisoner and gun captures while British and Allied lines report gains and losses at Armentieres, Givenchy, Montdidier, and along the Oise canal. Front action remains vigorous with no American assault yet underway.
London reports fierce fighting at Messines Ridge as German forces still hold parts of the position on the West Flanders front. The 1917 June battle ended with British mines beneath Hill No 60 and a breakthrough on July 7.
London reports furious fighting across the entire front from LaBassee canal to the Ypres-Comines canal in Belgium. British forces withdraw from Armentieres amid gas, with heavy engagements north of Armentieres and near Wytschaete and Ploegsteert. Haig notes German assaults pressing the British back to a line through Wytschaette and the Messines crest. Germans cross the Lawe at Lestrem but are driven back. Portuguese troops participate amid stiff German pressure, while Amiens remains a strategic objective.
Fishers Island New York April 11 Sergeant James Boyle Coast Artillery shot and killed two men wounded several more including First Lieutenant Becheud then killed himself. Victims include First Sergeant Fred H Cook and Private Thomas G Guzdek. wounded are Becheud Hollent Green Sullivan. Boyle barricaded doors before firing a fatal shot to himself. New Haven April 11 The von Hoegen family moved from their Division and Prospect streets residence famed for the midnight raid when Maximilian von Hoegen was made to kiss the American flag. A stolen Til linghast safe was rifled after they left and its contents scattered. Clarence Bolton could not explain the burglary nor motive. Attic boxes contained envelopes with the young attorney’s business address, suggesting he was not expected to return.
Sir John Foster Fraser MP warned in New York that Britain will have 1,500,000 soldiers in France by Christmas, made possible by Admiralty tonnage. He urged vigilance against German propaganda, noting partial success in Italy and total success in Russia, and stressed the need to guard against it.

Two wounded Germans were captured, one dying later. the action lasted two hours amid heavy artillery and gas shelling. The Americans held the line with notable gallantry, breaking the German effort and prompting praise from officers and French experts. A German prisoner captured last Saturday included a sergeant who had won the Iron Cross.

Memphis jury convicts Dc. G. Wells of involuntary manslaughter for striking and killing E. R. Choates, a drug clerk, and sentences him to two days in the workhouse. Wells, from Mississippi, faced the court after the fatal incident.
