The J. A. Goffett tanker at Richmond pier suffered a blast while oil was aboard. J. F. Brooks of Standard Oil said ignition of gas during cleaning likely caused the explosion. Over sixty thousand gallons of oil escaped destruction as workers feared a larger fire.
